Adorable one-day-old otter pup and mother will melt your heart

This one-day-old otter pup and its mother were seen in a pool outside the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in California. Photographer Connie Levenhagen caught the pair as they floated downstream snuggling together. In the footage, the mother occasionally grooms and cuddles the pup and at one point, she even lifts it up in the most heartwarming hug ever.

The film was taken at the Great Tide Pool at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The mother otter sought refuge there since the birth of her young pup in December in order to stay protected against other animals and the stormy weather. The mother has left the pool a handful of times since the birth but always with the pup. If she needs to dive to hunt for clams and abalone, she’ll leave the pup on the surface. This dog loves her toy so much, she takes it everywhere

Luca is a beautiful 18-month-old Alaskan malamute who doesn’t like toys. But she does make one exception for a stuffed dog she’s kept since childhood. Luca’s owner, Karissa Lerch from North Carolina, originally bought the toy dog when she was younger because she couldn’t afford a real dog at the time. Then after college, she got Luca and bestowed her beloved toy to her. Now Luca and the doll, Mr. Wolf, are inseparable.

“I passed the stuffed animal down to her and she has kept it by her side at all times ever since,” said Karissa. “It’s her baby. She carries it around everywhere and always has it with her when she goes to bed.” Looks like Luca has an irreplaceable cuddy buddy. Winners of the first annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

Nature photographers are known to go to any length and level of discomfort to create that riveting and jaw-dropping wildlife photo. But one competition brings some humor to the profession and lets us take a peek into the lives of animals in moments a little less profound than we’re used to seeing.

This year, photographer Paul Joynson-Hicks launched the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards as a way to showcase animals in their most outrageous, funniest, and awkward moments. In the competition’s inaugural run, photographer Julian Rad took first place with an adorable hamster running toward the camera with full cheeks.

“I often enter wildlife photography competitions but I love seeing the funny pictures,” Joynson-Hicks said. “Strangely enough, they are harder to come by than you might think.” [h/t]Highly-Commended-Alison-Buttigieg Highly-Commended-Charlie-Davidson Highly-Commended-Graham-McGeorge Highly-Commended-Julie-Hunt Highly-Commended-Marc-Mol Highly-Commended-Tony-Dilger Highly-Commended-Yuzuru-Masuda SILVER-RUNNER-UP-William-Richardson WINNER-Julian-Rad
