If you can’t travel the world, why not let your art do it for you? That’s the thinking behind Newark-based artist Tasha Lewis’ project Swarm The World, which aims to spread her butterfly art installations around the globe, and have it documented online for all to see. The project starts with 4000 butterflies separated into 10 kits, each also containing repair supplies and a notebook to document their journey. Each kit makes it way to a different person every four weeks, with each recipient displaying the butterflies around their town and recording the events on social media. At the completion of each four week period, they send their kit on to the next participant who continues the process until each kit has ‘toured’ ten cities. Finally, they return to Tasha for a capstone gallery show featuring all the installations from Swarm The World.
