Illuminated Tree House by Tom Hare Sits Perched in Branches

UK-based designer Tom Hare crafted this illuminated tree house using willow branches woven in a beautiful spherical shape. Commissioned by a private residence, the Cherry Tree House sits perched in the home’s back yard, lighting up at night in a warm glow that reveals its intricately sculpted form. When lit, the woven tree house takes on a magical quality, appearing as if it were dropped in the tree by some sort of other-worldly beings.

A close examination shows the tremendous time and effort spent by Tom, with the complexity of the weaving only adding to the structure’s beauty. The willow branches bend and twist, intertwined with one another in a way that mesmerizes the eye. To view more of Tom’s work, visit his website or Tumblr page. Photos courtesy of Daniel Castledine.

Life in the Trees: Man Links Three Cool Treehouses in the Forest

In what’s sure to be the envy of every man who hasn’t quite grown up yet, architect Peter Bahouth created this series of three linked treehouses in the forest behind his Atlanta home. The trio of treehouses are the culmination of the sorts of things every little boy dreams of when building a home in the trees in their youth. Rope bridges serve as pathways, and a bed even folds down to give unobstructed views of the beautiful forest.

An avid environmentalist, Peter named the trio “Mind, Body, and Spirit” to remind of the special connection these unique homes away from home have with nature. Strings of hanging lights will provide for the perfect atmosphere for a getting in tune with the wild on a warm summer’s night. And the fresh cool breezes are easily let in the wooden forts through awning windows. The photos you see here will appear in Jane Field-Lewis’ upcoming book My Cool Shed, and are courtesy of photographer Lindsay Appel (via Ignant).
