We’ve all seen it. The stray dog wandering the roads, searching for scraps of food or a warm place to spend the night, looking as if it had not been bathed in ages. Sadly, many of these wandering dogs are not simply runaways but pups that have been castaway by neglectful, or even abusive owners.
Thankfully, not all people are as heartless as those that abuse a helpless animal and many work tirelessly to find these animals badly needed homes with loving families. One internet user was driving on the Bay Bridge on day when they saw a poor looking black dog being chased by some young children. The children were chasing after her brandishing sticks and she was clearly pregnant. Not able to drive past this terrible sight, they picked her up and took her to an animal shelter. They decided to call her “Betty.”
The unfortunate fact remains that there is a large – too large – number of dogs, cats, and other animals such as Betty at shelters such as this one and there is no way to care for them all indefinitely. Workers have no option but to put down those animals which are in poor health or that do not find homes quickly. Sadly, Betty appeared heading for this fate.
But our anonymous internet hero stepped in once again and took Betty home, not willing to let the poor pup meet that sad fate. What follows is the complete story in our dog rescuer’s own words that will warm even the coldest of hearts; be sure to read all the way to the end and share with any of your pooch loving friends!
