It’s a scientific fact: everyone loves cats more than anything, both IRL and on the internet. Cats are the best! To speak to that fact, a group of 12 Los Angeles-based architects each donated high-concept cat condos to FixNation, a local charity that helps reduce the homeless cat population.
The architects took their cat bed design duties incredibly seriously and turned out some conceptual condos. The Lunar Cat Lander from Knowhow Shop transports kitty into the stratosphere with its cat-sized crater and futuristic spaceship sleeper. In a nod to mid-century modern design, the folks at Standard Architecture Design created the California Cat Cube. The Cube resembles a 60s sideboard that would complement even the most styled home.
Of course, cool cat bed design is nothing new, though the charity aspect of the FixNation project is particularly innovative. The creative forces behind Meyou Paris capitalize on the idea of cats craving enclosed, small spaces with their Cat Cocoon. And the neutral, natural orb is not just a cozy spot to nap: it’s an object d’art for your living room.
From round to rectangular, the Modern Mews Cat Cave looks more like a retro-modern stereo system than a cat bed. Its sleek shape and natural finish means it would fit in any decor; its size and shape also makes it an awesome replacement for a side table or nightstand! Each Cat Cave is handmade out of Seattle and comes apart for easy cleaning. Functional and fierce all in one.
Yet another cat sanctuary that looks like it’s landed from the future— the Pod Bed by Jed Crystal. This bed, however, both incorporates bold color and some height; the color for your aesthetic and the height for their comfort, of course. It actually resembles the little guy from Monsters Inc, doesn’t it? It’s playful, cute and full of personality— just like someone else you know, right?!
Cats like to fit themselves into the smallest containers possible: cardboard boxes, bowls, sinks— and now globes. Atomic Attic has repurposed a vintage globe, cutting it in half and upholstering its insides, as a comfy cat bed. This one is particularly festive with its metallic shine. When your kitty is sleeping inside, it’s super cute sitting on your side table or next to the couch. And when your kitty isn’t sleeping inside, it’s still super cute sitting on your side table or next to the couch! Win-win!
